Sigh (2024, video)

Sigh

This was my first attempt at video art. I wanted to show something of the experience of severe bradykinesia (very slow movements) and rigidity (two of the three most common Parkinson's symptoms). I started with a photo I took of myself when I was in the depth of these symptoms, which at their worst have lasted up to 10 hours. (Don't ask how I managed to set up my camera for the shot in this state; it took 25 minutes).

The blue thing on my collarbone is a battery that I use to wirelessly charge the battery/controller under my skin.

As everything around me falls away, I imagined if this is how my children will see me when I'm gone: a stationary figure that slipped away over time.
